Best Drugstore/Highstreet Foundations

15 February 2014

When it comes to the drugstore/highstreet (whatever part of the world you're from), people often overlook the fact that they sell some great makeup products. It's a common myth that good foundations need to cost over $50, and they need to have big brand names labeled on the bottle, but today's post will give you some great options for foundations if you want to save some cash!

Rimmel Match Perfection // I recently purchased this from the massive makeup sale at Kmart, and I have no regrets. If you're someone who has trouble finding a suitable shade for your skin tone, then you will be pleased to know that Rimmel has created 12 shades to make sure everyone finds a perfect match for them. When I first applied this foundation, I noticed how wet it was, and I felt as if it would slip around on my face, but after 2 minutes it set to lovely natural finish, that made my skin appear flawless. The coverage is medium, but can definitely be built up to a fuller coverage.

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation // Everyone has mix opinions about this foundation, most prefer the old formula which is much more fuller coverage, and much thicker in consistency. On a day to day basis, I prefer a lightweight foundation that can cover my minor imperfections, and in my opinion this works great for that purpose. It has a satin finish, as opposed to the matte finish the old formula gave, and it has a PUMP! Yes, Revlon has finally listened to our cries, and has created a pump on their new formula. As for lasting power, it isn't as long lasting as the old formula, which would last all day on me, but it isn't too bad either. Let me know if you would like a comparison of both foundations side by side!

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation // Last time I heard, this foundation was discontinued, so apologies if it is! This is my go to foundation when I want a fresh faced look, as this is one of the best drugstore dewy foundations. It has light coverage which can be built up to medium coverage, and it smells amazing! I wouldn't recommend this foundation for those of you who have very oily skin, as it doesn't have the best lasting power, but nothing a little powder can't fix!

Revlon Colorstay Whipped // This one takes first place. By far one of the best drugstore foundations I have ever tried! The consistency is as the title suggests: a whipped, moussy texture. What I love about this foundation is the fact that it is so versatile, and works wonderfully on all skin types. Whether you're oily or dry, this foundation won't accentuate your dry patches, or have you looking like an oil slick by the end of the day. I would say this foundation has medium to full coverage, so if you're someone who isn't a fan of lighter coverage foundations then you will love this one.

Of course there are plenty more excellent options from the drugstore, so don't restrict yourself to department stores only! I hope you found this post helpful, let me know if you would like to see more "Drugstore/Highstreet" posts!

  1. Another drugstore foundation that's worth trying is the Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation. It may be hard to find a shade match, but the foundation is lovely. Great coverage, dewy finish and lasts all day. I haven't ever worn it for 25 hours, so can't comment on that claim... who actually wants to wear a foundation for 25 hours straight anyway?! Lol

    1. Ooh that sounds amazing, I may have to pick it up on my next trip to Priceline! Haha, we should try out that claim some day, I'm sure it would wreak havoc on our skin though!

  2. Great post, I haven't tried any of the foundations you mentioned (except for old formula colourstay) so I now have a few more to check out! My current fave is Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation which sadly isn't available in Australia :(

    1. I love it! It's so long lasting, but it isn't drying or cakey at all, which is so rare to find in a foundation these days!

  4. Ooh great post :D I think I will have to add the whipped Colorstay to my huge list of foundations to try. Also I would definitely like to see a comparison of old vs new Colorstay :)

The Rimmel foundation is so weird. It's sooo liquidy and its a bit pink toned? Overall not bad for the price but I wouldn't repurchase!

    1. Yes, it's amazing, and since you love the old Colorstay I'm sure you'll love it! It's a shame the Rimmel foundation didn't work for you, have you tried the shade Warm Honey? It's the perfect match for me, but I do have neutral toned skin which is why it doesn't appear too pink on me

    1. Last time I heard, it was! But maybe they just changed the packaging, because I can't understand why Bourjois would make a move like that since it's one of their most popular products! You're welcome lovely! x

  11. I've never tried the whipped foundation! I remember trying the maybelline mousse like one and it was far to cakey for me. Maybe thats why i've been afraid of the revlon one!
    Great post!!

    1. I've never tried the Maybelline mousse but I've heard that it tends to cake up, luckily the Revlon one doesn't tend to look thick at all, you should try it and let me know how you go!
