August Favourites!

3 September 2014

August, why did you have to leave so soon? I'm actually really bummed that winter is over, because it is my favourite season, and now I have to wait till next year to experience hot chocolate, chunky scarves, and not to mention, staying cozy in big blankets all day. But I like to look on the bright side, so goodbye dehydrated skin, goodbye gross hands and feet, and goodbye to my eczema (which has caused me a lot of pain in these past few months). You may notice that there is a skincare theme going on in this months favourites, and that's because my skin really played up these past few months, but thanks to these products, it is now under control!

August was quite eventful for me as I started a new semester at a brand new university! Let's just say, it was exciting but also scary, but I made a promise to myself at the beginning of the year that I'm going to do things out of my comfort zone, and so far, it's working well for me. I also have a pile of assignments (which I will start on after I finish this blog post), and I decided to do a "coping with university" blog post, as I have a few study tips and tricks that might help you when the work starts to pile up!

Cancer Council Face Day Wear Sunscreen SPF 30 // So, for the past few years I've been a little bit of a rebel. Yep, you guessed it, I NEVER wore sunscreen, even with the warnings on TV, and the fact that Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, I was always so lazy to apply sun protection. Actually, that isn't completely true; I just hated how sunscreen looked and felt on my skin. It would leave a white cast on my face and make my skin appear greasy and oily (which I really don't need) so I would always skip the most important step in our skincare regime. But then I discovered this video on the internet (watch below, it is AMAZING), and I realised that it's time to get my act together, and I discovered this gem. This sunscreen is my favourite sunscreen I have ever tried. It doesn't leave a white cast, it isn't oily at all, it works wonders underneath your makeup, and it feels really light and moisturising on the skin. I now keep this on my dresser so I never forget to apply this before I leave the house, and I have noticed an improvement in my skins texture and appearance, so make sure you don't forget to slip, slop, slap! Especially now that we're into spring!

Ghd Heat Protect Spray // I'm pretty sure I've included this product in my previous favourites before, but I'm going to talk about it again because it is just that amazing. Anyone experience sticky and weighed down hair thanks to dodgy heat protectants? I have, which is why I stopped using them. This product is great because it's a very fine spray that leaves your hair feeling soft and silky, all while protecting it from heat styling. It also helps make your style last all day! If you're on the hunt for a new heat protectant I cannot recommend this enough. So say goodbye to sticky hair, and hello to luscious locks! (I sound like a shampoo commercial).

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence // I won't go into too much detail about this product since I wrote an in-depth review here, but I will say that this has been a life saver for my skin in these past couple of months. Yes, it is very, very expensive, but in my opinion, it has done what other products never have. My skin now feels hydrated and supple, the texture is much more smooth, my skin is also much brighter and looks healthier. Of course, if you do go down the route and plan to purchase this product, then ask for a sample first if you can, just so you can be sure that it works for your skin. This product is applied after you cleanse but before you moisturise, so I take 3 drops, rub it in the palms of my hands, then pat it (not rub) into the skin. This product is also great if you suffer from redness, as I found that it really helps calm my skin down. I only use this in the morning, but if you like, you can use this day and night.

Couleur Caramel Concealer in shade #12 // Recently my favourite drugstore concealer, Maybelline Fit Me ran out, and since I didn't have the time to go and buy a new one, I decided to rummage through my collection to find a substitute. I found this, and I haven't looked back. This concealer is creamy and opaque, providing full coverage but without looking cakey or thick underneath the eyes. I will admit, the shade is a little light for me, but it isn't anything that I can't work with. The consistency of this product is beautiful, and while it covers everything I need it to cover, it doesn't crease or fade throughout the day which is a huge plus. Also, the ingredients are all natural and organic, so it doesn't include nasty ingredients!

Kosmea Radiance 24/7 Youth Boost* // This is another product I've done a full length review on, so I won't bore you with too many details. If you would like to read the review, you can do so here. I've tried rose hip oil in the past and wasn't the biggest fan, I just felt like there was too much hype surrounding it, and it didn't do much for my skin, but this oil really is a game changer. This oil isn't 100% rose hip oil, but it contains seabuckthorn oil, pomegranate oil, camellia oil, apricot oil, and yes, rose hip oil. Unlike rose hip oil, I did notice a difference in my skin when I used this product. I like to use this at night on its own after I cleanse my skin, and I've noticed how my acne scars have faded, and my dry spots on my skin are no longer there.

Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eyeliner in shade Purple Night // You may know that I don't like applying black eyeliner in my waterline. I find it looks too harsh for my face, so I usually stick with keeping my waterline completely bare, or using a nude eyeliner to help open up my eyes. In the past month, there came a time where I was looking for a little more definition in my makeup look, and since I didn't want to try black, I decided to try purple, and lo and behold, it was a success! Now, I don't use this all the time, but I do reserve this for special occasions. It gives the right amount of drama, and purple really helps make brown eyes pop! It's also a nice way of wearing colour on your eyes if you're a little afraid of using coloured eyeshadows, plus, you can find these eyeliners at any Priceline store, so they're easily accessible!

So there are my August favourites! Here's to hoping that September is a fun and exciting month, and I wish you all the best for Spring!

What are your favourite products from the month of August?

  1. Great favourites! I showed that video to my friends who also never wore sunscreen, and I converted one! Yay! My other friend is still too lazy...sighs. Sunscreen is so important! I'm a huge fan of the Biore Face Milk SPF50 (it's a Japanese sunscreen) and it's basically like a primer, and actually helps control oil!

    Tasha // shiwashiful.

    1. It's so eye opening! I've heard of that sunscreen from the youtuber Shameless Fripperies, and I've been dying to get my hands on it! I think I'll add it to my wishlist because it sounds amazing. x

  2. Ooh, I must try the sunscreen, I'd obviously seem this brand, but just assumed it would be thick and oily. Love these types of posts, hun xx
